Zeltiq in Marie Claire June 2010 Issue! Notes from a San Francisco Bay Area Dermatologist

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Check out the June 2010 issue of Marie Claire magazine, where a writer undergoes the Zeltiq procedure and takes us through her personal experience from beginning to end.  We are delighted that her treatment delivered the same exciting results we have seen in our practice.  The Zeltiq uses cold temperature technology (cryolipolysis) to freeze and reduce fat cells in small, targeted areas around the waist and abdomen.  Maximum results are generally seen approximately 2 to 4 months after the treatment.  There is minimal (if any) downtime, minimal discomfort and the treatment only takes about an hour per section.  When the Zeltiq device first came to our office nearly 6 months ago, the staff jostled as to who would be first in line to try it out!  Since that time, we have all seen noticeable results with our own treatments and with that of our patients.  Call our office for more details and to try out one of the most exciting procedures of 2010.

Interview on CBS 5 about the MTS-Roller: Notes from a San Francisco Bay Area Dermatologist

Monday, May 17th, 2010

In case you missed it, here is the link to my interview with CBS Channel 5 News (KPIX) discussing the benefits of the MTS-Roller!

This instrument is one of my favorites.  Its a hand-held roller dotted with micro-needles that can be used on the face, neck and body. While the MTS (Microneedle Therapy System) Roller does not look like something you’d naturally be inclined to used on your skin, it has been shown to deliver results.  It helps induce collagen growth in the dermal layer and helps products penetrate more deeply into the skin where they can be much more effective. This translates to skin that appears softer, smoother and less wrinkled over time.  It may also help with scarring and hyperpigmentation. The treatment is virtually pain-free and no damage is caused to the skin. The roller can be used safely on the skin 3-4 days per week and comes in two sizes.  The 0.2mm needle roller is to be used on dry to sensitive and mature skin types.    The 0.3mm needle roller is better for thick and oily prone skin.  We will be happy to help you choose which is most appropriate for your skin.  The roller retails for $125 each, which includes sterilizing equipment.

Our staff will instruct you on the proper use of the roller, so you can use it in the convenience of your own home.  You can use the roller with nearly any product, however, we find that the best products include Neocutis Bio-Serum, hyaluronic acid serums, bio-restorative creams, hydroquinone and retinoic acids.  Let us help you take advantage of this handy little tool and add it to your anti-aging warchest!

Skin Cancer Awareness Month: Notes from a San Francisco Bay Area Dermatologist

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Welcome, May!  One of my favorite months because the campaign to encourage people to get skin checks and think about their summer sun protection plans is in full force.  Keep these tips in mind for the months approaching and, of course, all year round too!

  • Seek the shade, especially between 10 A.M. and 4 P.M.
  • Do not burn.
  • Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths.
  • Use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day.
  • Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours.
  • Cover up with clothing, including a broad-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.
  • Keep newborns out of the sun. Sunscreens should be used on babies over the age of six months.
  • Examine your skin head-to-toe every month.
  • See your physician every year for a professional skin exam.

And remember, if you notice any moles, freckles or red spots that are new, have recently changed or catch your eye as being unusual, do not delay in seeking medical evaluation.
