Ultherapy Logo

Bay Area Cosmetic Dermatology was among the first practices to offer the Ultherapy® procedure in San Francisco. This advanced, non-surgical treatment is effective for lifting and tightening skin on the face and neck. We do more Ultherapy treatments per week than any other provider in Northern California. Our skilled nurses use tried-and-true ultrasound to strengthen your skin from the inside out, in a completely non-invasive way.

After just one Ultherapy treatment, your skin will gradually reflect a more lifted and toned appearance. To find out about the benefits of Ultherapy treatments, request an appointment online, or call our office directly at (415) 292-6350.

How is Ultherapy different from other cosmetic procedures?
Ultherapy is the only non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses focused ultrasound to stimulate the growth of new collagen deep within the skin. The production of new collagen occurs over time, so results can become more apparent over three to six months; however, patient experiences vary. The procedure takes only about an hour for most patients, and there is no downtime.

It also is the only procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows us to actually see the layers of tissue we target during the treatment and ensure the energy is deposited precisely to where it will be most effective.

Does it hurt?
A recent software upgrade called “Ultherapy Amplify” now affords a more comfortable procedure. While comfort thresholds vary from patient to patient, most patients now report that the procedure is quite tolerable. If and when any discomfort does occur, it happens while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. This sensation is temporary and is a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated.

We take measures to make the experience as pleasant as possible by offering oral pain medication, and patients tell us they leave comfortable and excited about the benefits to come.

How does it work?

As with other ultrasound procedures, an applicator is used to project an image onto a screen. Unlike other ultrasound procedures, the Ultherapy applicator also delivers low levels of focused heat to the deepest tissue layer of the skin. Your body responds to the heat by repairing the deep tissue layer with collagen and elastin — the building blocks of firm, healthy skin. While many patients observe some immediate tightening and lifting, the complete, naturally lifted response typically develops over the next 2 to 6 months. Your experience may vary.

Ultherapy - How It Works

How is this procedure different from other non-surgical skin tightening procedures?
Ultherapy is the only skin rejuvenation procedure that uses ultrasound. This allows our practitioners to both see and treat the deepest skin layers with precision. Fractora Firm™, which uses radio frequency energy, is another non-surgical skin tightening procedure we offer. We are also one of the few Bay Area practices offering the Silhouette InstaLift™, a nonsurgical facelift alternative with almost no downtime.

How many treatments will I need?
Most patients have satisfactory lifting and tightening after only 1 or 2 treatments, although results vary between patients. Of course, the natural aging process will continue, so you will eventually lose the collagen and elastin created by the treatment. When this occurs, many patients retreat.

How much does it cost?
If you’d like to make an appointment for a consultation, we can do an evaluation and give you a specific idea as to the price then.
